Saturday 16th July
It has rained nearly all day today. Sometimes hard and sometimes harder! There have been very few dry spells. It absolutely fell down while we were getting water this morning. We were regretting our decision to move but the diesel boat had bagsied (?) our spot because we told him last night we were going.
After getting water we set off and I stayed inside doing cleaning which was marginally better than getting wet! We would have stopped at Higher Poynton but it was chocker as we had suspected it would be. We were luckier at Fourlane Ends and got a space opposite the diesel point at the marina. I don’t know if someone had left this morning or if it hadn’t been full last night. We only saw one boat moving on the way here and think that as the weather was appalling everyone was probably waiting to see if it improved.
When we got here I lit the fire (I know it’s the middle of July!), mainly to dry the two pairs of shoes my husband managed to get soaked this morning and his hat too. And George’s cushion which got wet in the cratch due to a combination of rain getting in while we were at the sanitary station and Ken’s umbrella being put on it after he came back from the paper shop! Actually it’s not very warm today so it’s nice to have the fire.
There have been more boats on the move this afternoon, despite the non-improvement of the weather, but none have left from along here, even though these are supposed to be only 24 hour moorings! We are probably going to stay here tomorrow (naughty) as the forecast is dire and there will be very little point in trying to get in at Gurnett on a wet Sunday!
