Monday 18th July
Not wanting to push our luck on the 24 hour moorings (although the boat behind us had been there at least 3 days) this morning we moved (in the driving rain) about 3.5 miles to Bollington. We have never moored at Bollington before as all the moorings have been full when we have come past, so we were quite pleased to get in. The moorings here are very low so the gang plank is at it’s fullest extent to facilitate the extraction of our aged pet. This type of mooring is ideal for painting but obviously one needs it not to be continuously raining for that!
We had been through the village on the bus yesterday so we knew there were several shops. It is a very useful place actually with butchers, bakers (almond slices to die for), launderette, a couple of convenience stores and a newagents. We also went to the Spinner’s Arms which had a notice up stating it was dog friendly. Judging by the carpet most people had left much of their furry friends behind! George was not with us however as he had taken one look at the weather and firmly decided to stay at home!
We met a chap in there who had actually got off the bus because he wanted a wee, come in the pub for a quick half (and a wee) and was going to get the next bus to where ever he was going. He used to live on a boat for 22 years he said but now had a council bungalow in Disley. He and Ken talked mostly about fishing, although as he had hardly a tooth in his head it was sometimes a little difficult to understand him. And he kept laughing for no apparent reason, bless.
It finally stopped raining about an hour ago, after nearly 36 hours, hurrah! Tomorrow we are going to give Macclesfield another go as the fishing tackle shop and both the markets will be open. Hopefully it will be a bit drier than yesterday.
