Gurnett to Dane Aqueduct – Lovely Day

Thursday 21st July

It’s been a lovely day, not all that sunny but warm and above all dry. We have travelled the 4 miles and the 12 Bosley locks from Gurnett Aqueduct to Dane Aqueduct.

This morning Ken went into the village for a paper and ended up buying up half the contents of the farm shop as well! We’re not going to starve over the next few days anyway. While he was gone I was in the back room, putting my washing in the machine, when I looked up and spotted the chap from the boat behind – having a wee in the hedge! Yes he really was and he didn’t seem bothered when he turned round doing up his flies and noticed me looking!

When we got to the top of Bosley Locks we did all things sanitary, filled with water again and got rid of the festering bag of rubbish which I had had to relegate from the shower to the front of the boat, on the outside! There was a mooring just before the water point at the lock but it wasn’t a very good one so we decided to go down the locks.

While I was doing the elsan the boat which had been moored in front of us last night passed us and went down the lock, bugger! But wait, then they moored just below the lock and all dissappeared into the shower/toilet block, hurrah, we could over take them. Unfortunately they weren’t very long and pulled away just as I was opening the lock gates, bugger again!

So we had to follow them down which meant I had to fill the locks before we could use them. We did meet a couple of boats coming the other way so I didn’t have to do all of them, but most. Still, we made it to the bottom in 2 hours which we were pleased with. When we got to the bottom we were surprised to find no other boats in sight so we moored up in the best spot. There was a boat round the corner right at the end and of course there are several others here now.

There was a weimeraner wandering around here when we arrived and I thought there would be someone with her but she was alone. I then thought that perhaps she would go away but after a while it became apparent that she wasn’t going to go away. I decided to catch her, which was easier said than done as she seemed a bit skittish. I eventually attracted her with some of George’s biscuits (shh, don’t tell him!) and got her on a lead. Fortunately she was wearing a collar with her name, Rosie and a phone number on so I phoned and the woman I spoke to sent her daughter to collect her.

With our good deed for the day done we sat around on the bank enjoying the warm weather, long may it continue! Ken caught a fish which has to be seen to be believed! Unfortunately it was so small I couldn’t get a photo!

Prop whine update – No change!
