Bollington to Gurnett – Dry, dry, dry!

Wednesday 20th July

What no rain? Yes, today it has actually stayed dry (so far) and has been reasonably warm too. No sun though I’m afraid. We have travelled about 4 miles to Gurnett. Before we left Bollington we were discussing where we were going to stop today and decided on Oak Grove as we had never stayed there before. It had been busy at Fourlane Ends when we were there and full at Bollington both the nights we were there too so we thought we didn’t stand much chance of getting in at Gurnett.

We stopped at Macclesfield for water. We had to use the tap north of the Buxton Road bridge, the one where it is really shallow, because there was a chap washing his shiny, new boat at the other one! We couldn’t get anywhere near the bank and had to leap a great distance to moor up! A helpful chap moored opposite watched us while we moored up as best we could, then said, ‘It’s a bit shallow there, there is another tap further up.’ I thought – ‘Now tell us two things we don’t know!’

As we approached Gurnett Aqueduct we couldn’t see any boats moored up there. Indeed as we came round the corner the only boat which was there, right at the other end of the moorings, was pulling away. Amazing, no one moored up at Gurnett, so we decided to stop there after all. Currently we have been joined by only another 2 boats.

George was particularly pleased with this decision because it meant he got to go to Sutton Hall. As he hadn’t been out for a few days due to the inclement weather conditions he was quite enthusiastic. He was even more pleased to meet a lady artist who said she loves Bull Terriers and he was her most favourite dog ever! She wants photos of him so she can do a model to display in her gallery in Macclesfield.

Tomorrow we have to get to Bosley, whether we go down the locks or not remains to be seen.

Prop whine update – No change!
