Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August
Well, the weather hasn’t been quite as bad as the forecast, although we have had some pretty hard showers at times and it has gone noticably cooler. We haven’t done much except go into town shopping both days. It is about a 15 minute walk in to town from here and we have come back with 2 rucksacks full each time (Friday as well) so we are well stocked up again.
Yesterday we took George to The Bowling Green which is a 5 min walk for us but took him 25 mins, bless! He is getting to the stage now where the pub will have to be right outside the boat so we can get him to it! He’ll be ok tomorrow because we are going to move to Acton Swing Bridge where the Leigh Arms is only a few yards away.
I had a strange experience today, I kept hearing this high pitched buzzing noise. Because I was outside when I first heard it I thought it was something in the distance. I came in to the boat and could still hear it but I thought it was outside. After a while I realised I could hear it wherever I was and it was right by my ear. I put my head next to Ken’s ear and he could hear it too. Something small and buzzy was trapped in my hair! Panicking, thinking it may be a wasp, I rushed outside and vigorously brushed my hair to get rid of whatever it was, I don’t think it was a wasp though. I seem to be doing my bit for the environment by providing a habitat for the local insect population. May be I need to get a hair cut!
It has been nice and relatively peaceful staying here the last few days. Friday evening there was a congregation of youth on the lock making a bit of noise but nothing too bad. Some were jumping off the lock and swimming in the river, with their clothes on mostly. If they knew about the sewage which goes in here they would think twice about swimming I should think! As the temperature has dropped since then they have been finding other forms of entertainment elsewhere.
