Uppermill to Mossley

Saturday 3rd September

Not a huge trip today just 2 miles and 7 locks from Uppermill to Mossley, which nevertheless did take around 3 hours. Mooring up at Mossley was a bit of a trial because we couldn’t get any where near the bank. We did know we probably wouldn’t be able to get in  to the bank because we had passed a boat moored there on the way up and he was well out. Our front was nearly in, about 6 in away and the back was a good 3 ft out to start with, this was to change later however!

We took George for a toddle to the conveniently placed Roache’s Lock pub and sat outside. He had a bit of a confusing moment when the chef came out and spoke to him. What he couldn’t understand was, why didn’t the chef give him a pat. How do you explain to a dog that chefs can’t pat dogs because they are in their whites etc and must stay clean. He was really funny growling and jumping up and down, George not the chef!

While we were at the pub we had a look at the menu and Ken said if it rained later and he couldn’t fish we could go out for dinner. As luck would have it about 5 pm it started raining, hurrah! The meal was really good, especially the lovely, gooey, homemade chocolate pudding and ice cream! Good job I’m working it off on the locks.

When we returned from the pub we discovered that the water level had gone down and we were at a jaunty angle sitting on a shelf! We had to let the boat out another foot at both ends to get off the shelf and I had to get the gang plank out for George.

Next stop Stalybridge again.
