Piccadilly to Little Bollington

Tuesday 6th September

We have had another fairly long day today and having done the Rochdale 9, for the third time this year and travelled 12 miles up the Bridgewater Canal we are moored at Little Bollington. The weather has been a bit grim, showery, very windy and pretty cold too.

We started the day with a trip to Go Outdoors for some pink flush for the loo. In our wisdom, as it wasn’t very far, we went off without our coats – bad move as the heavens opened while we were in there! By the time we had been to Aldi as well it was just drizzling a bit when we went back to the boat. To be on the safe side we donned full waterproof gear in case of a repeat performance while doing the locks and of course it never rained a drop in the 2.5 hours we were doing them! There were a few hairy moments caused by the wind and the usual excess water during our descent but we emerged relatively unscathed.

There were 2 boats at the sanitary station at Castlefields when we got down there so we gave it a miss and headed for the Bridgewater. I stayed inside the boat as it was windy and quite cold, wimp. I did do the ironing though and plied my poor frozen husband with soup and bread!

It was about 3pm when we arrived at Little Bollington and as George had been shut in all day yesterday and again today, we took him to the pub which is not very far away in the village. He was very impressed, not only because we actually went inside the pub instead of sitting outside but also because there were proper dog biscuits available (Ken gave a donation to the PDSA) instead of having to share my crisps. On the way back we spotted a HUGE pig in a field by the road. It was black, hairy and grunted really loudly at us.

We are staying here tomorrow because Ken needs to do an oil change and check the batteries.
