Sunday November 20th
We have been back in the marina now for 3 weeks and have settled in to a non-travelling routine again. George has decided it is a bit too far to walk in to the village every other day (as he was doing last year) and has settled into a once a week walk there and a trip back on the bus. The rest of the time he just has a short toddle up the pontoon to the grass and back along the path a few times a day. Night trips to the grass for a wee are a bit of a nightmare though because as he can’t see very well in the dark now he will veer towards the edge of the pontoon and cut off the corners! I have to hang on to him for grim death to prevent him from having a repeat of last year’s impromptu swimming session!
The coal man appears in the village car park once a fortnight so we have taken the boat down to the village once since we have been back to collect coal and George was pleased to find it a much shorter walk to the pub that day! We will continue to do this coal collecting trip once a fortnight, as long as the weather is ok and everything doesn’t freeze up!
Last winter Ken seemed to have some sort of cold/flu for much of the time we were here so, in an attempt to alleviate a repeat performance this winter, he has had a flu jab. Hopefully this will be successful.
Talking of Ken, we had hardly been back a week when he, once again, went into self destruct mode, slipped over on the pontoon getting out with the toilet cassette and gashed his shin all the way down! The initial cuts and bruises have cleared up but he has a dent in his shin and his foot is still swollen up! Clumsy bugger!
We have had a couple of visitations since we have been back, Mum and Dave came for the weekend of the fireworks and Peter came last week for a few days. It was nice to see them all. We are not going home this winter because we are spending the £1000 it would cost us to hire a cottage and a car for a week on our gold license for next year’s cruise on the Thames and the Fens.
