Here We Go Again!

Monday 20th February

At last we can see the light at the end of the tunnel and next week will see us embarking on this year’s cruise. We are hoping to do the Thames, Kennet and Avon Canal and the Fens. I say hope because at the moment things are looking a bit dicey with water shortages practically everywhere we want to go! Last year too much water most of the time – this year not enough!

We are leaving here on 29th February and our first stop will be a week at MGM in Thurmaston, where we had the boat built, to meet Barry and Barbara, who we will be travelling with again this year and to renew some old aquaintances. It is nearly 2 years since we left MGM so it will be good to go back.

Hopefully we will be able to get George to walk to the Old Plough at Birstall from there, to see Matt and Avril, although it may be a bit too far for him now. He is currently having 2 or 3 walks round the marina per week. It takes between 50 mins and an hour to get him round but he seems to enjoy it, bless.

When we eventually get started on the cruise the first obstacle on our journey looks like being able to get through Leicester, where there is already a restriction on lock use due to low water levels and has been since last year! The locks are being closed all together from 17th March until the beginning of April to have the gates made more leak proof.

Anyway how far we are able to get and when remains to be seen. Watch this space.
