Sunday 11th March
I can’t believe we have been here over a week, it has flown by! So what ‘exciting’ things have we been up to?
Wednesday morning started off really wet (again) so we went in to Leicester on the bus (£4 Local Day Saver for me) and pottered about round the shops and the market. Then we went to The Last Plantagenet (one of the Wetherspoon’s) where we amused ourselves by observing the strange antics of some rather weird people in the street outside! Money was changing hands but only very small amounts (coinage) as far as we could tell. One chap surreptitiously left some bottles of what looked like water in a nearby bin. We thought they may actually contain some sort of illicit alcohol and someone would collect them but they remained in the bin all the time we were there. Odd!
Thursday the weather was better so we had another go at getting George to The Old Plough. He wanted to give up about halfway but got there in the end. Matt and Avril were pleased to see him and he was treated to a chew of Matt’s ears, a dip in a huge tin of biscuits and a bottle of Dog Beer (smells like bovril). The pub dog, Denzil was there and even though he is one of George’s pet hate dogs, an Alsatian, George was really good, he let him come quite close to him and never growled once.
Friday we went to Leicester again, this time to meet Mick and Cathy who are missing us so much they spent an hour and a half on the bus from Derby just to come and see us before we go off on our travels! We had a look round the market (got some veg and some really good fish) and then headed for the pub of course! We won’t see them again now until October.
Saturday we went shopping, did some cleaning and checking of things. Sunday we did more shopping (I know) and had another walk to Birstall. It was too hot to take George who spent most of the day sleeping in the cratch in the sun, bless! Ken did a bit of unsuccessful fishing in the afternoon and I did the European ironing mountain.
Tomorrow morning we depart on this year’s cruise proper.
