Trent and Mersey Trip – Day 3

Here we are at Trent Lock, having left Thurmaston on Sunday instead of Monday we may have expected to be a bit further on than this by now! However it isn’t a race and we don’t care how far we’ve got anyway!

Sunday we made a stop at Sileby Mill Chandlery to get some coal. It can be a little chilly in the evenings now and although we haven’t lit the fire yet, at least we are ready for it! Sunday night we spent just outside Loughborough as we wanted to get some shopping there the next day. We spent so long titting about with the shopping (and taking George to the pub at Normanton!) that we only made it as far as the ‘Flightpath Moorings’ at Kegworth last night.

Today we stopped at Trent Lock, which isn’t very far from Kegworth, ostensibly to empty the cassette and the rubbish and fill up with water before venturing on to the Trent and Mersey. But as usual there was a pub nearby that George  just had to visit (obviously we had to go with him!) and by the time we had had lunch (actually very hard baguettes that even George had trouble eating!) and a couple of pints (one that was the wrong beer!), done some boat tidying and had a cup of tea, we really couldn’t be bothered to go anywhere else today.

So although we can see the Trent and Mersey Canal, we are not really on it ……yet! Maybe tomorrow?

Cheers B.
