Wednesday 21st March
Instead of going to Braunston and back, a trip which would entail a tunnel with a bend in and a flight of 6 locks, twice, we decided to stay here at Norton Junction for a couple of days before we set off down the Grand Union.
Ken has suddenly decided (after nearly 3 years) that we need a wall bracket for the tv, so there is more room on the shelf for the dvd player, digital tv recorder and the satellite decoder, so we can get at the plugs more easily to turn things on and off and so we can swivel the screen round if we are sitting at the dinette. Why he couldn’t have thought of this when we were in Rugby last weekend is anyone’s guess!
Anyway, I scoured the internet for a bus we could catch to Rugby or Northampton or anywhere from here really but to no avail. So today Ken and I walked to Daventry! This journey took just over an hour each way and was a round trip of about 6 miles. The shortcomings of my trainers were apparent by the end of the walk because the soles of my feet were really hurting! That aside, the walk was easy and the weather was nice. We did 30 mins on the towpath to the main road and another 30 mins through the suburbs to the town centre.
The town of Daventry came up trumps with an Argos, where we purchased the aforementioned tv bracket and a Wetherspoon’s, where we recovered our strength for the return journey! Tomorrow we will not be so energetic!
