Sunday 8th April
We have moved 2.5 miles and 3 locks today, from Soulbury to Linslade. We decided to get away from the bottom of the locks and the risk of being in the Wyvern firing line when they all return later in the week. Although we are still this side of the boatyard at least we are on a straight bit with other boats for them to aim at! Not really, we just fancied a change of scenery. The communication signals, ie phone and internet are better here too.
We are moored just past The Globe in a very nice spot although it is busy here with boaters and walkers and cyclists! We did try to moor up about half a mile before we got here. We spotted some metal pilings opposite an open field with a nice bit of tow path but there were rocks or something under there and we couldn’t get anywhere near the bank. That is probably why there wasn’t any one moored there!
Although there has been some slight drizzle at times it hasn’t been too bad a day and lunchtime we took George to sit outside the pub. We could have taken him in but it was quite busy and the area where dogs are allowed is small. Anyway it was warm enough so we sat outside. It turned into a bit of a case of musical chairs. When we first got there we were the only ones sitting outside the front of the pub, every other table was empty, then a couple with an alsatian sat right next to us! So we moved in to the garden round the corner. Then the drizzle got a bit harder, the couple with the alsatian went in to the pub and we moved to a table with an umbrella. The rain stopped and two lots of people with about 5 dogs between them surrounded us so we moved back to our original seat. The couple with the alsatian came out of the pub and sat – not next to us this time, opposite. However, George seemed not to notice the dog so it was ok. The next time it rained I took George back to the boat!
This afternoon Ken and I walked to Tesco, which is about a mile away and got a paper from the garage because the actual shop was shut. There are convenient moorings right outside so when we move on we can get lots of shopping!
Tomorrow has been forecast to be wet and windy so we are staying put.
