Thursday 5th April
Today Ken and I went to Milton Keynes on the bus (£4-20 for me) a trip of about 30 mins. Milton Keynes is a strange city because it doesn’t appear to have a high street. The whole of the city centre is one huge shopping mall (the longest in the world) incorporating – thecentre:mk, (yes that is how it is written) which was started in 1973 and which in 2010 was granted grade ll listed status and Midsummer Place. In the shopping centre we saw the famous concrete cows! Oh, and an animated feature clock with a bubble blowing frog! Sorry no pictures, bet you’re gutted!
When we returned from our shopping trip, laden with M and S hot cross buns (naughty) Barbara’s friend arrived to take her off on her hols. I told Barbara not to come back sickeningly brown now the weather has gone totally tits up here!
Friday 6th April
Not much happened today. We collected a couple of containers of water from the nearby tap. If the last tap we went to had next to no pressure this one was the absolute opposite. When Ken turned the water on the short piece of hose we were using shot out of the container and skittered about like a snake (just like the garden hose in The Herbs!) soaking him and me and nearly getting the chap who was using the other tap! He thought it was hilarious and thanked us for the entertainment when he left.
We thought it was fairly warm so we took George to sit outside the pub at lunchtime. However a chilly breeze got up after about half an hour so he had to go home so we could go inside, bless.
Barry was trying to fish in the afternoon but at regular intervals pairs of boats from the Wyvern Shipping Company at Linslade came down the locks and past us so it was impossible.
Saturday 7th April
Today Ken and I had to revisit Milton Keynes because our printer decided to pack up last night as I was trying to print off the email confirming we have bought new fishing licences, in case anyone wants to know. We did a bit of clothes shopping in BHS (polo shirts for him and jumpers for me) and got Barry some dubbin for his boots first then went off in search of Argos for the printer.
Unfortunately Argos is not in the extensive shopping centre but rather it is about a mile further down Midsummer Boulevarde in Grafton Way! This was not an unpleasant walk as all traffic may be avoided using the underpasses and we were able to refresh ourselves in not 1 but 2 Wetherspoon’s on the way back!
No fishing again tonight – too cold! Got clattered by a mooring Wyvern too! Sunday we are moving on a bit.
