Wednesday 4th April
What a lovely day it has been. While the rest of the country has been disappearing under feet of snow or battling strong winds and driving rain, we have been blessed with a really nice day. Over night there was quite a bit of heavy rain but this morning started bright and by lunchtime it was mainly sunny and warm too.
In light of the fact that the weather was not as bad as we had been led to believe we caught up with B and B (about an hour away) and then we all carried on to Soulbury Three Locks. We managed to moor in the last 2 proper spaces available below the locks. The road runs alongside the canal here and there is a pub so it is a convenient place for Barbara to get picked up tomorrow for her holiday. We and Barry can stop here for a few days while we decide what we are going to do and where we are going to go. But if there is a chance that they will shut the summit at Tring we will have to get a shift on and get over it before that happens. It’s all a bit hit and miss at the moment.
Anyway, at lunchtime we all went to the pub, the aptly named Grand Union. As it was so warm we took George and sat by the bottom lock. A load of Morris dancers, the same ones we saw on the L and L last year actually, came down the locks and ended up doing a gig outside the pub. We had to struggle to stop Ken from joining in! Fortunately they didn’t start until just before we were leaving.
There is a convenient bus stop outside the pub so tomorrow Ken and I are going to Milton Keynes.
