Friday 13th April
First I have to make a correction. When I last posted I believe I said Barry had caught nothing whilst fishing that day. I have been severely admonished and have to report that he did indeed catch a couple of quite nice bream!
On Wednesday Ken and I made our trip to the sanitary station and Tesco’s and back. This entailed a 4 mile round trip and one lock (twice obviously) and took 3 and a half hours. The weather was not too bad, in fact there was only one shower that day, unfortunately it occured while I was on the lock, minus my coat!
As we were leaving the shopper’s moorings at Tesco’s some lads were fishing there and one of the little darlings asked Ken if he could turn the engine off while he went past because he was scaring the fish. Ken asked him, not very subtly, how he thought the boat would be able to move if the engine wasn’t running! You can’t put it where it ain’t.
When we got back we were able to moor up in the same spot where we had been and then we all went to The Globe and enjoyed a few pints in the sun.
Thursday we went in to Leighton Buzzard again and had a look round the shops (and the Swan Hotel!) We needed a battery for our calculator but as was demonstrated by our new printer costing less than ink cartridges for the old one, so it proved cheaper to buy a new calculator than a battery! As hay fever season is about to rear it’s ugly head again we tried to stay one step ahead by buying himself a nasal spray, to supplement the piritons, in the hope that this year it can be kept at bay. We also went into a charity shop and bought a couple of DVD’s and a couple of books. The books, surprisingly, were buy one get one free and the assistant was amazed when we said we would pay for both – it was a charity shop for God’s sake you can’t accept charity from a charity shop!
Today Ken has been useful and tightened up the belts on the engine. He also tidied up his vast array of (barely used) tools. We now have only one toolbox to negotiate at the bottom of the steps in the back room and it looks a lot neater. We have put the redundant (and broken) toolbox on the roof hoping someone will nick it! I have done the usual cleaning. After this we did the usual trip to The Globe with George again. It was a lovely day, much better than forecast, at times you could even say it was hot! On our return Barry provided tea and fruitcake!
Barbara is returning tomorrow and we are picking her up at Tesco’s then moving on through Leighton Buzzard to Grove Lock. The reason we are moving is because Potters Bar A C is going to hold a HUGE fishing match all along here on Sunday and I’m not putting up with that again!
