Saturday 14th April
Today we haven’t travelled a great distance, only 2 miles and 1 lock. Firstly we stopped at Tesco’s for another stock up. After we had finished shopping and while we were waiting for the water point to become free, there is only room for one boat on there unless you breast up, the diesel boat appeared so we filled with diesel (93p/l) and got 6 bags of coal. When we had filled with water as well the boat was sitting very low in the water!
After all this replenishment we made our way to Grove Lock where the moorings were a bit scarce. We didn’t really want to go up the lock look for somewhere else. There was quite a big space between the 2 boats that were there but unfortunately it was a couple of feet too short for both of us so B and B pulled in there and we moored up near the lock. There is an inlet here which runs into the small marina behind the pub but it isn’t the entrance. I think it may have been a winding hole at one time but there are no signs up and no one said anything so we stayed there.
As the pub is on the non towpath side of the canal and the only way to get there is over the lock we were unable to take George with us but as he was asleep he didn’t really notice we had gone, bless. B and B joined us there and we caught up with all Barbara’s holiday news.
Tomorrow we are going to have to make some inroads into this trip to the Thames.
