King’s Langley to Cassiobury Park, Watford

Sunday 22nd April

Up until this evening it has been dry and fairly warm today, hurrah! It is raining fit to blind you now though. We have come another 3.5 miles and 8 locks from King’s Langley and are moored in Cassiobury Park near Watford. We only just managed to get in here, we had 2 attempts, having the same problem as always, too shallow and decided this would do. The front is in but the back is about 3 feet out again! We are in the only pound along here where the fishing is totally private but as the weather has now taken a turn for the worst that is immaterial.

There is a small wood alongside the towpath here and we took George for a little walk through it, along the lane leading to the golf course, down to the lock and back. He seemed ok but his foot is still bothering him a bit. After we had done that Ken and I walked about a mile to Croxley Green and found a Spar shop and a Harvester.

Barbara has heard that Rickmansworth is absolutely chocker with boats. This may be due in part to the fact that BW has been clearing the ‘continuous moorers’ out of London for the Olympics and some of them may have decided to settle for a while in Rickmansworth so as to be still in commuting distance of the city. With this in mind we have decided to stay at Watford while Barbara goes off for her hospital visit. We may move to the next pound so the boys can fish without incuring the wrath of the fishing club but only after we have made sure there is enough depth of water for us to moor. There is no point in leaving this mooring if there isn’t.
