I have had a really lazy few days. Two days at Fradley doing bugger all and the last two days with only 2 locks to do! However, tomorrow I have an eleven lock flight through Atherstone so all that will change! There are no locks at all between Fradley Junction and Tamworth, where there are just two close together. I have been steering the boat sometimes and have vastly improved since I crashed into the bank in Nottingham. Oooops I don’t think I mentioned that at the time! I don’t do tricky things like coming in to locks or stopping to moor up but give me time.
Yesterday (Mon) we travelled about 6 miles and moored between Whittington and Hopwas in the afternoon. The weather was fab and we sat on the bank in the sun, much to George’s delight as he loves sitting in the sun. Unfortunately, as he doesn’t like other dogs, we have to be careful about letting him sit on the bank in case a dog comes along and there are tears before bedtime! This was not a popular dog walking spot so we were ok. In fact we only saw two dogs the whole time we were moored there (both times George was inside). Later Ken caught another Zander which I successfully managed to photograph this time!
Today we have travelled about 9 miles and are just outside Tamworth. Ken is fishing (as usual) and it’s a thrill a minute, with pike and zander galore! We stopped at Fazeley Junction this morning (where the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal branches off) for water and shopping. We are getting the hang of this finding accessible shops thing now (after our efforts at Burton!)
I’d better go and have another Guinness because tomorrow I’m going to have to do some work! On a bright note I have lost half a stone, so that’s good.
Cheers, B.
