Coventry Canal – Tamworth to Nuneaton

Today we have travelled about 7 miles from Tamworth, through Polesworth (very nice town), up the Atherstone flight through……you guessed it, Atherstone and are currently just outside Nuneaton. We did the Atherstone flight quite quickly actually, in about 2 hours. We were fortunate that at all but the last 3 locks someone was coming down so we could go straight in without having to empty them first. This obviously saves time.

There is a pub at the top of the flight. Unfortunately we missed it, much to George’s disgust! I had to console him with a packet of crisps!

I forgot to mention yesterday, because I was trying to do the post fast as I had a dodgy network connection (actually I had to dangle my dongle out of the window in order not to lose the connection!). Anyway, yesterday we passed a couple of Halesworthians on the canal. Not only do they live in Halesworth but they live a few doors down from where we used to live! She said she thought she hadn’t seen us about lately! Small world.

Tomorrow we are hoping to get on to the Oxford Canal on the next leg of our trip. That is about 11 miles from here and NO locks (hurrah!)

Cheers B.
