Wednesday 20th March
It was raining when we got up this morning and this turned to sleet so we decided not to travel today. After a leisurely breakfast we caught the bus to Nuneaton from the handily placed bus stop just over the bridge here. It was a Stagecoach bus and the fare was a very reasonable £3-50 return.
Nuneaton is, according to Wikipedia, the largest town in Warwickshire. We had a wander round and found a wonderful ironmongers shop which was a veritable Aladdin’s cave, chock full with everything ‘ironmongerish’ you could possibly need. There was so much stuff crammed in there the corridors between the displays were really thin. I have no idea how the chap even got behind the counter! Stocktaking must be a nightmare.
It was market day today and there were loads of stalls in the high street. We also found a Wetherspoons (of course) which was a nice one and very busy. We got chatting to a couple in there and discovered their daughter lives in Bungay, small world!
There is an Asda just over the road from the bus station so we did a bit of shopping before we came home, very useful.
As tomorrow is looking like the best day for travelling this week, we are going to make our way on to the Ashby Canal. We have been past it several times but never been on it. As we have plenty of time until we have to be in Thrupp we thought this would be a good time to do it.
