Hillmorton to Braunston – Still bloody freezing!

Sunday 31st March

As the merry month of March draws to a close the canal is frozen over once more! As usual the morning was sunny, the middle of the day cloudy and the evening sunny again. We have travelled 7 miles and 3 locks from Hillmorton to Braunston and are moored just through Bridge 89, at the start of the 14 day moorings.

We are surrounded by fields of sheep and lambs and at times the baaa-ing is deafening! I took a couple of nice photos this evening as the sun struggled out over the field and church opposite.

We were quite late getting here really, we got up late for a start, due to the clock change. The first thing we had to do after we set off was stop for water just round the corner. Then we had to do one of the 3 locks, stop again to empty the loo, then do the remaining 2 locks. Then the rest of the journey seemed to take forever for some reason. The wind was really cold and by the time we got here we were freezing!

We went into the village, to go the shop and to the pub (obviously), via the towpath which was very muddy. There is however, a footpath from the church, though the sheep field, to the bridge where we are moored up so we returned that way and it was a lot quicker and a lot less muddy. I am getting really fed up with the mud now, I have to keep cleaning all the time, it gets on my wick!

Day off tomorrow.
