Day at Braunston

Monday 1st April

March has gone then and good riddance. Apart from the day we left the marina it has been less than 10 deg every day and a lot lower at night. I think the average temp has been about 3 deg (*sings* – ‘when will I see you again?’) that is what you’d expect in Jan or Feb. The canal was not frozen over this morning, surprise, surprise but we had already decided to have a break from freezing our nads off on the back of the boat and stay here.

I spent quite some time this morning chasing sheep on the towpath and running after the farmer on his quad bike in the field, neither activity produced a satisfactory result. A couple of mothers and 2 lambs appeared by the bridge this morning, they had got out of the field. I tried and failed to get them to go back in to the field and they ran off up the towpath, disappearing round the corner. According to the chap moored in front of us they had been out there last night as well.

There were 2 lambs by the gate in to the field baa-ing and I thought it may have been their mum who had just run off. Shortly after this Ken (who was outside titting about with the satellite dish) called me to say there was someone on a quad bike in the field so I rushed off to tell him about his escapees. Unfortunately I can’t run any where near as fast as a quad bike and it soon became apparent I wasn’t going to catch him. Hopefully everyone was reunited later in the day.

We went for a walk along the towpath, past the marina and up the locks to The Admiral Nelson where we spent a while gongoozling. Actually, I have invented a new word for gongoozling while sitting at the pub having a pint – gonboozling!  As we were coming out of the Admiral Nelson we met a gorgeous Bulldog puppy whose name was, wait for it – Gary! Apparently he looks like a Gary. He was lovely though, bless.

We have decided to go to Rugby tomorrow as we are getting bus trip withdrawal symptoms!
