Banbury to Twyford Wharf (King’s Sutton)

Sunday 14th April

Friday we did indeed go shopping, Ken got his maggots, we both got 2 pairs of trousers (in the Mountain Warehouse sale) and I got some socks. Unfortunately I have yet to find a handbag for this wedding but we have one more visit to Banbury planned so fingers crossed.

While we were in Mountain Warehouse we met Penny (nb Campanula) who we hadn’t seen for ages. She is moored at Twyford Wharf so yesterday we travelled the 3 miles and 3 locks to Twyford Wharf and moored about 3 boat lengths in front of her. She must have seen us mooring up because as we were doing so she buggered off to Banbury on the bus. Well, she would have done but the bus didn’t come!

We saw her later when we passed her boat on our way to King’s Sutton. We walked there across the fields and the railway line. This was not a bad walk and took about 35 minutes. Whilst in King’s Sutton we went to the Coop and the 2 pubs, The Butcher’s Arms and The Three Tuns.

Last night we went round to Penny’s boat for a drink and a catch up which was most enjoyable.

Today has been a very busy day. Ken has done a good deal of sorting out of his fishing gear and tools. I have hoovered and mopped inside the boat (again) and started my cleaning onslaught of the outside, doing the front, back, bank side and as much of the roof as I could reach without creeping along the water side gunwhale. I will do the rest when we are moored on the other side.

This took all morning, after which we walked to Adderbury across the fields which took 40 minutes going because it was up hill with a head wind and we did take a bit of a detour at one point because we couldn’t see where the footpath went. And 30 minutes coming back. Between the going and coming back we visited The Red Lion Hotel which was very nice.

This afternoon I have done the European ironing mountain and hindered Penny in her attempt to export photos from her smart phone to her PC. Tomorrow we are going to Banbury on the bus.
