Monday 29th April
We have returned from the wilds of the South coast having had a lovely time at my nephew’s wedding in Southampton. Everything went off without a hitch. Well except for the bride and groom, obviously they got hitched (sorry)!
It was nice to catch up with family we don’t see very often and I even received a compliment from the groom’s brother (another of my nephews) who said I looked very nice. I was pleased, until he qualified the remark by saying – ‘Not bad for someone who’s just rolled off a barge!’ Thanks for that Daniel! We also got a particular mention in the Father of the Bride’s speech when he was thanking everyone who had travelled a long way to be there, as it had taken us 7 weeks!
We had a good trip home today by bus, train and bus. A bit more forward planning could have reduced the total journey time by a couple of hours because we did have a bit of a wait at Southampton Central for the train and again for the bus in Oxford but never mind, we amused ourselves people watching.
When we got back to the boat we had to immediately go out again and walk to Kidlington Coop for supplies, having run everything out before we left for the weekend. There is no substantial shop in Thrupp or Heyford (next stop) or (next stop after that) Aynho so we can’t have a proper restock again now until Banbury, unless we go somewhere on the bus or train again.
So our 7 day mooring runs out tomorrow and we will be reversing through the lift bridge in the morning, turning round and heading for Heyford again, where you may recall there is no internet or phone signal so you will have to wait for the next thrilling installment!
