Banbury to Cropredy – Windy again.

Friday 10th May

We had a lovely evening with Penny yesterday. She arrived at just before 8 pm clutching what we thought was a bottle of wine. It was in fact – HALF a bottle of wine – she had somehow managed to drink half of it before she came over! I said I was going to tell everyone what a tight wad she was so now you all know! Seriously, we had a good chat and a real laugh, especially about alternative ways to use a Boginabag (normally does exactly what it says on the tin).

This morning when we got up it was not too windy but it was gusty enough for us to decide not to reverse through the lift bridge to the tap for water but to collect some in our containers instead. As we were getting ready to do this Penny was preparing to leave so I operated the lift bridge for her. She pulled in to the tap before the lock so we went to the one at the sanitary station. When we came back for a refill she was just leaving the lock so we said farewell. It has been really nice seeing her and we may not meet again for another couple of years!

Having finished getting our water we set off to travel 3 miles and 3 locks to Cropredy. We are moored just downstream of Keens Bridge (155), exactly where we moored on our way down to Thrupp, exactly a month ago funnily enough. As we were mooring up the wind seemed to strengthen suddenly and has been blowing a gale ever since so we were glad we stopped when we did.

We had lunch then trundled off to the Spar shop for a paper and The Red Lion for a couple of pints of Wadsworth 6X. Shandy, the pub dog, seems to have got over her phantom pregnancy and was bouncing around wanting to play, bless.

Tomorrow, as we are now moored the right way round, we are planning to sand down the starboard side under the gunwale, ready for painting on Sunday and touch up the blacking. Weather permitting of course.
