Hawkesbury – Ricoh Arena Centre

Thursday 6th June

We have been busy again today, firstly I did another load of washing. I think doing little and often is best but I am starting to get RSI from all the wringing out! Ken put up the new smoke alarms and also attended to another couple of things ready for the BSC inspection, which we are assuming is still taking place tomorrow not having heard anything from Nigel to the contrary.

He is supposed to be coming about lunchtime, which will give us time to empty the gas locker of everything which isn’t a gas cylinder! This would include the hose reel, spare loo cassette, 2 buckets, 2 go kart tyre fenders, other fenders, spare hose and two 5 gallon drums of diesel! God knows where we are going to put it all! We also want to turn round, so we are facing the way we are actually going and get some water.

Back to today, after doing our jobs we walked to the Arena Park Shopping Centre which took about half an hour. It wasn’t as extensive as we had imagined and we had soon been round all the shops (none of which we were interested in) so we went into the huge 24 hour Tesco and got a couple of rucksacks full of extra shopping for a stock up. We then got the 1-15 pm bus back to Hawkesbury as it went from right outside Tesco’s and it had now got out hot.

By the time we had got back to the boat and I had put the shopping away we were late getting to the pub, heaven forefend! On the way there we were discussing the fact that so far this year, apart from Mick and Cathy and Bruce and Sheila (both from the marina), we hadn’t seen any one else we knew. Then lo and behold Nifty Fifty (a boat from Syston near Thurmaston) came round the junction. We don’t know the chap’s name but we have spoken to him several times.

After he and his lady friend had been for a drink they came past us to go back to their boat and stopped for a chat. Then, as they were going, another couple we know came along, Jeff and Jill from Aventgotone. Consequently we had to exceed the stated dose while we had a chat with them! Well, we couldn’t sit there without a beer could we?

By the time we got back to the boat it was dinner time so we have had to have our afternoon teacake for dessert!

BSC inspection tomorrow, as you know.
