Still at Hawkesbury – Yet another trip to Nuneaton!

Wednesday 4th June

At 6am this morning we were roused from a lovely sleep by a yoghurt pot from the moorings opposite coming home. I don’t suppose his engine is any louder than anyone elses but at that quiet hour it sounded like a traction engine! When he turned it off we soon went back to sleep though, not waking again until gone 8!

There was no sun in evidence today and it was a little chilly, in fact it still is and I have lit a small fire just to keep the chill off over night. We went to Nuneaton on the bus again and after getting a few bits in Asda went off to the fish stall on the market for what may be our last piece of decent fish for some time.

With the haddock purchased our next port of call was Wilko’s for smoke alarms. As you know we have our BSC inspection on Friday so of course the batteries in both our smoke alarms ran out last night! Remembering that the batteries in our current alarms cost over £5 each and that each alarm takes 3 batteries, which we had to order specially from The Watch Hospital in Burton, we decided that it would be far cheaper to buy 2 new alarms than 6 new batteries!

We duly acquired 2 new alarms and 2 spare batteries for less than half the cost of replacing the old batteries. Chuffed, we retired not to our usual Wetherspoon’s, The Sir Felix Holt but to The William White, the Lloyds Bar instead. As we suspected it was not as manic as the Felix Holt which is right in the town centre and we had a pleasant drink before getting the bus back.

This evening I have spent some time cleaning the cooker just in case it comes under close scrutiny on Friday!

We were pleased to hear from Cathy this evening that Mick’s operation went well today and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Tomorrow we are going to walk up to the Arena Park Shopping Centre near the Ricoh Arena (Coventry City’s football Stadium) which is just up the canal towards Coventry.
