Upton upon Severn to Worcester

Saturday 10th August

Today we have travelled 10.5 miles and 1 lock (Diglis) fron Upton upon Severn to Worcester and are moored near the race course. There is The Camra Beer Festival going on there today and we have already witnessed some results of over indulgence on the foot bridge here! There is some sort of live entertainment going on as well which has been getting progressively louder as the day has gone on. Us miserable old gits are hoping things don’t get even worse later on!

We are actually members of CAMRA but this doesn’t seem to have many benefits that we have noticed, apart from the large wodge of Wetherspoon’s vouchers we got when we joined! Certainly we would have to pay £5 each to get in to this beer festival. We would receive £2 in beer vouchers back but it would still cost us £6. We are not real ale fanatics but the beers we drink are real ales. We know what we like and we like what we know, to coin a phrase.

We can’t be bothered to troll through a load of dross to find something drinkable and our experience of beer festivals has not been favourable, so we gave it a miss. We went in to town and had a couple of pints of Abbott in The Crown because you know what you’re getting in the Wetherspoon’s!

Before we could go in to town we had to find the Croft Road car park and buy a parking ticket. Yes you have to pay and display along here! Instead of a car registration no we had to enter our boat index no in to the machine and pay £4 for 24 hours. We then trundled back to the boat to display the ticket. As it happened the enforcement officer came round after we got back so we didn’t really have to come back specially with the ticket but never mind.

When we got here there was only one other boat on these moorings but they soon filled up. We had a boat breasted up for a couple of hours while they went into town. The enforcement officer stuck a notice on their boat but said to tell them if they weren’t stopping over night they didn’t need to get a ticket. However, they bought one on the way back!

We sat in the well deck this evening listening to music, trying to turn ours up louder than the noise which was coming from the race course! At least no one could complain about it because we could hardly hear it ourselves! We have now got the tv on nearly full volume. Good job we don’t go to bed early.

Tomorrow we are going to the cricket. The match starts at 1-45 pm so we will be having a lie in and a lovely big breakfast before we go. Oh, and buying another parking ticket!
