Day at Worcester – A walk round and the cricket match.

Sunday 11th August

Well, the noise levels did go up dramatically last night! At one point the live entertainment at the beer festival was competing with a disco party going past on a trip boat and a huge firework display, at the same time! We gave up trying to hear the tv!

We had a lovely leisurely day today though. After breakfast we went for a walk along the river to the cathedral. We didn’t go in to the cathedral today. a) Because it was Sunday and there was a service on and b) Because we are saving it for when we come back this way later in the year. From the cathedral we walked in to town and had a wander round some of the quaint olde worlde streets. There are some lovely buildings in Worcester and if it wasn’t for the cars you could be years back in time in some places.

We did a couple of bits of shopping and then made our way to the cricket ground in plenty of time to pick up our tickets and get a good seat. We were able to sit virtually where we wanted so we chose two seats on the end of a row at the top of the Basil D’Oliveira Stand, almost behind the bowler’s arm (which is a good place apparently).

The match started at 1-45 pm and finished at about 7-30 pm, unfortunately Worcestershire got beaten by Kent! The weather was kind and I only started to feel a bit chilly during the last hour really. I didn’t even have to put my fleece on so that was a bonus.

We returned to the boat via the riverside path on the opposite bank to where we were moored and crossed by the Sabrina Footbridge, named after a river goddess. I got a lovely photo looking towards the railway and road bridges. We had dinner rather late for us, good job it was a bolognaise and I had cooked it in the morning!

Tomorrow we are off to Stourport on the last leg of our River Severn trip.
