Brewood to Wheaton Aston – Busy, Busy, Busy!

Wednesday 21st August

Today’s trip of 5 miles and no locks afforded me the opportunity to do the dusting I didn’t (fortuitously) do yesterday and some washing and the ironing, although I did have to break off from the ironing to moor up.

As we were a bit early we decided to moor at Bridge 18, upstream of the lock because we didn’t want to get down there and find there was nowhere to moor. We walked the cassette down to the elsan disposal (taking the bog for a walk) and found there was one space but we actually like it up here.

After returning with the cassette we set off again this time to the village where we visited both shops (chips and a paper) and The Hartley Arms (obviously) for a couple of Cocker Hoops. It was absolutely packed with ‘Silver Lunchers’ taking advantage of the Pensioner’s Lunch offer. We had to sit outside for fear of taking up a table which someone would like to sit on for a meal. We may go there tomorrow night for the Steak Night offer.

This afternoon instead of my usual nap I have cleaned the starboard side of the boat. I had to get rid of the dust deposited by the combine harvester last night. I have also cleaned the windows so am feeling quietly pleasedĀ  with myself. I will do the Port side tomorrow when we turn round.

Tomorrow we are going to get some cheap diesel (75.9p/l) and then we’ve got to go 3 miles to turn round. If we decide to go for a meal tomorrow night we will try to get a mooring nearer the pub on the way back.
