Thursday 22nd August
Today we have travelled about 6.5 miles and have ended up back where we started, well nearly. We descended Wheaton Aston Lock and went through Tavern Bridge to the garage where we got our cheap diesel. Then we had to go to High Onn Bridge to turn round, a round trip of another 6 miles.
We arrived back at Wheaton Aston about 11 am and were able to moor just upstream of Tavern Bridge, opposite the Hartley Arms. During the journey I was once again very useful, I did another load of washing which I hung out when we got here, along with yesterday’s lot. I also made a bolognaise and boiled a piece of ham. Is there no end to my talents?
Lunchtime we did the usual, went to the shop and the pub. We booked a table at the pub for the steak night tonight. Returning to the boat we had a small kip after our tea and a kit kat then Ken went back to the shop looking, unsuccessfully, for dried split peas to make pea soup from the ham stock. Meanwhile I cleaned the Port side of the boat so, for the moment we are all spick and span (or should that be ship shape?)
This evening we went to The Hartley Arms for our steak and very nice it was too. Perfectly cooked (it actually was medium rare not medium) and came with real chips. As it was rump steak it was a tad chewy but very tasty none the less.
Tomorrow we don’t really know how far we will get but are going somewhere in the general direction of Penkridge. We are probably meeting Mick and Cathy at Great Haywood on Sunday.
