Ragley Boat Stop to Weston upon Trent

Tuesday 3rd September

The short trip of 4.5 miles and 1 lock, from Ragley to Weston, took over 2.5 hours to complete, including a water stop. There was a bit of a hold up at Swarkestone Lock where we helped a single hander down before descending the lock ourselves.

We are moored just above Weston Lock in a very pleasant location. We all went off to The Cooper’s Arms which is where the fishing lake is that Mick and Ken wanted to look at. The Cooper’s Arms is a lovely 17th C mansion house formerly Weston Hall and has the fishing lake right in front of the pub, ideal! The chaps are going there tomorrow morning at stupid o’clock and Cathy and I will join them later!

We sat outside the pub with a nice pint or two of Bass, overlooking the lake, watching the fishermen. There was a lot of action with several fish being caught while we were there. Mick and Ken are looking forward to their visit tomorrow.

To that end Ken has spent the afternoon sorting out what gear he is going to take. As he usually fishes from the boat where everything is at hand it was quite a task deciding what he would need! I bet he’ll get there and find he has left something vital behind!
