Saturday 5th October
As I had done all my washing and drying yesterday we decided there was nothing to keep us on the moorings near the facilities at Saul so after getting water we moved on …………….. all of about half a mile through Sandfield Bridge! We are now moored between there and Fretherne Bridge opposite the Frampton Tennis Club where incidentally they are currently playing under floodlights!
We were going to walk round to Davis’ and make enquiries about having a service but the chap who was moored behind us at Saul recommended Gordon who will come and do the service where you are moored up. Actually Rosie and Phil did give us his card when we were at Stourport. Everyone seems to rate him anyway so we gave him a ring and he is coming to do it on Wednesday morning at Saul. Between now and then we will go down to Sharpness and back.
After a lazy breakfast we went for a walk to the village to see what local produce was for sale on the garden gates. We got a dozen eggs, eating apples and runner beans. We also went in the shop for a paper. To get back to the boat we had to pass two pubs ………….. I say pass I mean go in to two pubs! We had one at the Three Horseshoes, a pint of Uley, not bad beer but a bit too cold for me and then we went to the Bell and had a pint of Rucking Mole (yes I did say Rucking, it’s a rugby term) which was ok.
As it was such a nice day we sat outside both of the pubs watching the world go by. Frampton is a busy village so there is always someone about and it is popular with tourists too. While we were outside the Horseshoes we watched two cars draw up and two couples got out, assembled their fold up bikes, donned their safety helmets and high viz waistcoats and pedalled off up the road.
Outside the Bell the local football team (lads in their late teens/early twenties) turned up in various states of consciousness to be taken to their away match. A pair of jackdaws also arrived to clean the plates left on the tables and have a drink from the dog bowl (see photo).
Nearly opposite where we are moored up is Shipton Mill which used to be the Cadbury factory. If it still were the Cadbury factory I would be moored up outside it trying to find a way in!
Ken is currently fishing, all he seemed to be able to catch were eels (although he did manage to get the hook caught in his own trousers earlier) now they have got wise and just keep biting lumps out of his spam and buggering off!
Tomorrow we are moving on a bit further.
