Saul Junction to Gloucester – Cold and windy, is Winter here?

Thursday 10th October

Brrrrr, it has been cold today! The North wind was blowing very strongly into our faces as we travelled the 8 miles from Saul Junction to Gloucester. Ken had to go back into Michelin Man mode when he was driving the boat.

When we got to Gloucester we stopped at Sainsbury’s for a stock up then moored in front of Sula the Buddhist Centre lightship. We like mooring there as it is a little bit away from things. It is near the college but the pontoon is not accessible from the bank and there is a gate at the end of the pontoon near the sanitary station which requires a BW key. There was only one other boat on the 48 hour moorings when we got here.

We went in to town and I retrieved my coat from the alteration and repair shop. They have done a really good job of mending it, despite the fact that it was an awkward repair to do. In fact I was so pleased I gave them an extra £5, I’m generosity personified!

Then it was off to Wetherspoon’s, of course, for a nice pint of Abbott. There were the usual people watching opportunities in there today – Including a bloke who sat at the table next to us after a couple of lads who had just finished their meals left. I say finished their meals, they had left nearly half of their food.

Obviously this fact hadn’t gone unnoticed by this bloke because he started munching on a chicken leg which one of them had left! We couldn’t believe it. He must have been disappointed when one of the staff cleared the plates before he had finished clearing the plates, if you see what I mean.

We have more shopping to do tomorrow including getting some varnish (aaargh, the Winter maintenance programme is almost upon us) and we want an ordnance survey map of the area so we can find some walks to do when we aren’t doing maintenance!
