Upton on Severn to Worcester – Rain and dog poo!

Wednesday 2nd April

Today we have travelled 10.5 miles and 1 lock from Upton to Worcester and are moored on the pontoon moorings near Diglis Lock. The weather was looking good until about 30 mins before we reached Worcester when it went tits up and started raining!

This was much harder rain than that which left a coating of Saharan dust on my freshly cleaned boat and windows the day before! We stopped for water at the top of the lock then moored on the pontoon. There were 3 other boats there when we arrived including Alan on ‘Florence E’ who left Upton about 30 mins before us. We moored right on the end of the pontoon, all the others were fairly well spaced.

We went off to find the elsan and rubbish disposal point and to have a look at the Diglis Basin Marina. It is a small marina but conveniently placed being a stone’s throw from the riverside walk and about 10 mins from town. After looking round the marina we walked in to town for a paper etc. While we were there we sussed out the buses to Droitwich, just in case we decide to bus there instead of taking the boat.

When we returned, 3 other boats had managed to moor (2 were breasted up) on the pontoon. Unfortunately someone had let their dog have a crap, right outside our boat – twice! I was fuming, alright, on the tow path you can just about accept it if the owner isn’t keeping a close eye on their dog but on a pontoon mooring it’s bloody disgusting! No one has subsequently picked it up and I’m not going to. I just hope people don’t think it’s anything to do with us!

We are undecided about whether we are going to stop here tomorrow or move on, watch this space.
