We have spent a very pleasant couple of days here above Bratch Locks near Wombourne. Unfortunately yesterday’s weather was dull, breezy and rather cold. Ken still has a bad chest and I now have a cold as well so we thought we wouldn’t spend time creeping about on the towpath doing the blacking. We can do it at Brewood if the weather is ok when we get there and then do the other side at Norbury, so no rush.
So, instead of the painting Ken prepared a roast chicken dinner and I tackled the European ironing mountain which had built up during the last few days when I had a lot of locks! Lunchtime we went for a walk to the town this time we went down the tow path to the next lock, down the road and along a disused railway line to Station Rd then in to town. It was a very nice walk going past the Greyhound Sanctuary and what we think is a horse sanctuary as the fields seem to be full of them!
Against my better judgement I changed my mind about going in the Pool Bar and watching Norwich! They were beaten of course but they really put up a good fight (apart from the first 10 minutes when Liverpool scored 2 of their 3 goals!) so it wasn’t too bad.
Today Ken put some more replacement cupboard handles on and I did some cleaning before we did the same walk as yesterday and went in the Pool Bar again. This time we were watching Leyton Orient v Wolves and being very near Wolverhampton we were seriously outnumbered! This was another very good game but the result was not what we would have liked as O’s lost! So we had a hat trick of defeats for our teams this weekend, aaargh!
Tomorrow we are off again and are planning on stopping at Compton so we can have some more bright orange chips!
