Friday
It was a bright and chilly day as opposed to a dull and chilly one today and we travelled 9.5 miles and 8 locks from Wolverley Court Lock to Greensforge, taking about 5 hours to do so.
The moorings below the lock at Greensforge are tree lined and pretty dark. This meant what sun there was didn’t penetrate through to the boat so it was really cold and I had to roar the fire up! Also there wasn’t any tv signal to write home about or any chance of getting a satellite signal either.
Still, we were ready to stop by the time we got there (or I was anyway) and there was a nice pub! In the evening we did crosswords, read our books and watched a couple of dvd’s.
Saturday
Although it was dull for most of the day (until late afternoon) it didn’t seem to be as cold as yesterday. We have travelled only 4 miles today but with 10 locks including The Bratch and a sanitary station stop it still took over 4.5 hours. We are moored above The Bratch in a lovely open position opposite a cricket pitch.
After mooring up we walked in to the town of Wombourne about a mile away and got a paper and some bread. We also needed to visit Boots because Ken has a bit of a chesty cough. We also visited The Old Bush pub where we had a nice pint of Jenning’s Cumberland but the tv was showing Britain’s Got (no) Talent so we left hastily!
We had spotted the Pool Bar on the way down the street so we decided to go in there and watch the football. It is a very nice bar actually with Sky and BT Sports, 6 pool tables, real ale and a very nice line in crusty cobs! Unfortunately the match tomorrow is Norwich v Liverpool so wild horses wouldn’t get me in there tomorrow!
When we got back to the boat there was a cricket match going on opposite so we stood on the front of the boat and watched the second innings.
The moorings here are very low, just the job for painting the blacking, so we may do just that tomorrow, depending on the weather.
