Stourport to Wolverley – Busy day on the Staffs and Worcester

We have left the River Severn and are now on the Staffs and Worcester Canal. It has been a busy day today. We left at 8 am to ascend the pair of staircase locks from the river up to the canal. After this we stopped at the sanitary station in York Street Basin for water etc. We then did the 5 mile and 5 lock journey from Stourport to Wolverley with a stop at Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster.

We are moored above Wolverley Court Lock which is a very pleasant location. We moored with another boat which we had been leapfrogging since Falling Sands Lock. They had been moored above the lock overnight and left just as we were entering it. We caught them up at the next. They stopped in Kidderminster to go to Tesco’s so we passed them but they passed us when we stopped at Sainsbury’s! We had already decided we wanted to moor here and when we caught them up again at this lock they said the same so we both stopped.

The River Stour runs nearby and it is just a short walk to Wolverley Lock where there is a very nice pub, surprise, surprise! We were late on parade today not getting in there until after 1-30 pm!

We haven’t decided where we are going to stop tomorrow. It is supposed to be a nice day, unlike today which was dull and chilly so we may travel a bit further – or not. What we have decided is we are going to take a detour from our original plan and go up the Shroppie to Chester and possibly even to Langollen and then return via the Middlewich branch to the T and M. We may make it to Lincoln and Boston later in the year – or not.
