Trent Lock to Swarkestone

Monday 12th April

We have had a good travelling day today arriving at Swarkestone mid afternoon. It was cooler than the weekend but pleasant none the less. There were still quite a few boats about, most of them going the opposite way to us (was it something we said?) and the majority of them Canaltime boats. I was very careful filling the large locks, especially Weston lock, after what happened last time we came up here! We shared Swarkestone lock with a very nice couple in their late 70’s, who were still going strong and enjoying their boating. Ken realised there is hope for him yet!

After we moored up for the day Ken and I walked into the village, looking for somewhere to buy a paper. Unfortunately the garage, although it did sell papers, only had the Star and the Sun left, so we went without! But all was not lost because ………. lo and behold, we found a good pub! Called the ‘Crew and Harpur Arms’ it is a large pub with a garden running down to the River Trent. As we have decided to stay here another night, tomorrow we will attempt to get George there so he can review it!

After the hustle and bustle of Trent Lock and the rather clamorous neighbours on the pontoon, we are pleased to be moored in a peaceful spot tonight.
