Day at Branston

Friday 16th April

It’s been a really lovely day here, you wouldn’t believe how warm it has been after yesterday! Ken decided to check the batteries this morning. This was duly completed with minimal swearing (unusually) and a certain amount of blood loss! Although the latter may have been the fault of the stern greaser rather than the batteries!

After this task we took George for a walk in the water park, which he seemed to enjoy, until he realised we were going in the opposite direction to the pub! How does he know? When we turned round to go back he went like Hell, passing the boat with not a second’s thought and heading up the towpath towards the aforementioned hostelry.

This afternoon Ken and I walked into the village, a fruitful journey. It is a small village but has a post office, newsagent/stores (Times, Waterway’s World mag, bread and Eccles cakes), pet shop (naturediet), fish and chip shop (smelled lovely) and a medical centre which, fortunately, we didn’t need the services of. Ken had stopped bleeding by then!

Later this afternoon Ken started fishing and had a bit more success than he did the other day (you remember – microscopic and snail!) but I have to say, they’re still a bit small. Here’s hoping for better things at Alrewas tomorrow, if we can get a mooring.
