Willington to Branston Water Park (Brrr……..anston!)

Thursday 15th April

Brrrrr, it’s been another cold one! The sun never made an appearance until well after 6pm and then it was short lived! Apparently tomorrow should be better. Despite this it has been a really good day. Ken excelled himself again at Horninglow Basin with a nifty reversing move to get water. Actually there was already someone at the water point (of course) but he got on to an adjacent, empty, private mooring to wait. We were going to nip across after they had finished but a chap who has a mooring there let us use his tap so we didn’t have to move after the other boat left, which was really nice of him.

The same chap also furnished us with local shopping information, so we popped up the road to the Sainsbury’s he told us about, instead of having to find Morrison’s at Branston. This trip entailed us passing no less than 4 pubs in the street! I say passing, we did actually sneak in to ‘The Navigation’ on the way back! George always seems to know if we’ve snuck to the pub without him and eyes us with suspicion when we get back!

This afternoon we travelled through Burton upon Trent, which is a very pleasant journey, the daffodils at Shobnall Fields are a picture. We are currently moored near the Branston Water Park. There is a handy pub nearby, which George will be delighted to discover if we decide to stay here tomorrow as well! There are also some nice walks, which he won’t be so keen on!
