Yesterday was really windy and we were in two minds as to whether we should leave it until today to move to Sawley. However, as it hadn’t been as bad as we had thought the day before when we travelled from Ragley to Weston we decided to go for it.
We were glad we did because once again the wind sounded worse than it was and once we got moving we had a good trip. We actually met another boat on the move at Aston Lock which was unusual!
At Derwent Mouth Lock I checked the river level and it was just about in the Amber so we continued. A bit different from the last time we were there when it was about 2 ft below the end of the green marker!
The flood lock at Sawley was in operation so I had an extra one to do! Once through the flood lock we had our pick of moorings as there were only 3 other boats here! And one has subsequently gone into the marina.
We are conveniently moored near one of the water points so we won’t have to move to fill up. We saw the CRT moorings enforcement officer this morning. Her told us he is on holiday from tomorrow until Jan 5th so we could (naughtily) stay here until then.
However, we are hoping to go down the Soar (weather permitting) and through Leicester. As there is a lock in Leicester which is going to be closed on Jan 5th we have to leave well before then.
So here we are then ready for Xmas. Actually we already started the sherry and mince pies this morning!
