Yesterday (Thursday 1st Jan 2015) we left Derwent Lock and travelled 8 miles and 4 locks to Ragley Boat Stop where we are spending a few days consolidating. There is free electric available here which is handy to fully recharge batteries, do tumble drying and ironing etc. It is also nice to have the heater on in the bathroom without having to run the engine in the morning!
We have patronised the pub (of course) going in for lunchtime drinks and we had a meal tonight which was a bit better than the last one we had there.
This morning we walked to Asda at Sinfin (25 mins) did some shopping and got a taxi back (£4). It has been a lovely sunny day if a bit nippy with a keen wind. Tomorrow is set to be wet and windy so we will probably stay here until Sunday when we will go down to Willington for a few days.
Our decision not to go down the Soar and through Leicester has been vindicated by the fact that there has been another enforced closure. This time it is the other side of the city at Kibworth and is due to an environmental incident. This is not being reviewed until 5th Jan which would mean if we made it through Limekiln Lock before the stoppage there we would than be trapped between Limekiln Lock and Kibworth.
So we are just lurking about at the moment trying to decide what to do next!
