Shobnall to Branston – Finally moving on!

After a very pleasant but somewhat weather enforced week’s stay at Shobnall we have finally moved on.

Last Tuesday we decided that as the forecast was not very good (ie windy) for the forseeable we would go to Shobnall Marina and get water, diesel, coal, a new gas cylinder and empty the loo while the going was good.

After this we turned round and went back to Shobnall Fields for a few more days. Consequently we were then facing the opposite way to which we were supposed to be travelling. But that wasn’t a problem because when we wanted to leave we could go down to Horninglow sanitary station, use the facilities and turn round again.

We had to wait until yesterday (Sunday) for there to be a sufficient lull in the gale force winds so we could complete this manouvre! Having done the business at Horninglow we carried on to Branston and are now moored at our favourite mooring. There are no other boats here or on the moorings at the water park so we are Billy-no-mates again!

Today we made our last (for a while at least) foray in to Burton because tomorrow we are off (during another lull in the wind we hope) to Alrewas. We have got to get to Alrewas sooner rather than later because if there is a lot of rain the river will go into flood and we won’t be able to get there.

This winter cruising certainly keeps us on our toes. It gives us a lot to think about. We have to plan routes to tie in with the stoppages both planned and emergency. We need to keep an eye on the weather to make sure we have enough essential supplies (especially water) in case we get stuck somewhere due to adverse conditions.

So Alrewas here we come ………… we hope!
