Branston to Alrewas – A window of opportunity

A window of opportunity presented itself this morning and we took advantage of it to travel 4.5 miles and 4 locks, from Branston to Alrewas.

It was a perfect cruising day actually, bright and mild with no wind. We stopped at Barton Turns for water and had no other hold ups. We only saw one other boat on the move all day.

When we arrived at Alrewas we found the river was well in the green still but we are glad we have over come that obstacle because we now don’t have to worry about the rain.

We were surprised, on ascending Alrewas Lock, to discover there was no one on the visitor moorings above the lock or beyond the next bridge either.

We went off to the Coop, the butchers and of course the pub. Just after we got in the pub it started sleeting so we were glad we got there when we did.

Tomorrow is supposed to be pretty grim so we are staying put for a couple of days.
