Back On The Move! Ragley Boat Stop to Sawley.

It has been some time since my last post. We have had an enforced stay in Mercia Marina while going backwards and forwards to London visiting Ken’s aunt who sadly died on 4th Feb. We then had to wait until the funeral which unfortunately was on my birthday. Despite this we did have a nice weekend in London before the funeral.

Now we are on the move once more. We left the marina last Wednesday and stopped for a couple of nights at Ragley Boat Stop to break ourselves back in gently!

Yesterday we travelled 9 miles and 6 locks (the flood lock at Sawley is still in operation) from Ragley to Sawley. When we got to Derwent Mouth Lock we noticed that the river was in the red. We decided to go for it so we could get to Sawley before the windy weather which was forecast for today.

There had been no warning lights at Shardlow but the red light was on the lock when we arrived at Sawley. Anyway we made it here safely and will now stay until Monday at least depending on the river level.

Today we went for a walk down to Trent Lock and then along the Erewash to Long Eaton. It was a pleasant walk and took about 50 mins. We have been through Long Eaton on the Skylink bus to Nottingham and also on the train but we had never stopped there. It is quite a sizeable shopping centre with a large Tesco and Asda, as well as most of the usual shops and there was a market on today as well. We also found a Wetherspoons which was handy!

Tomorrow we are going to Nottingham on the bus.
