Foxton to Husbands Bosworth – Cold and windy!

Today we have travelled only 5 miles and the 10 staircase locks at Foxton to Husbands Bosworth.

The day started off promisingly with light winds and blue skies. However this was not to last and as we made our way up the Foxton flight it became increasingly more windy and started to cloud over.

It takes 45 minutes to do the Foxton flight so we were soon at the top where we stopped for water. Fortunately there was a lull in the wind as we pulled in to the water point!

After getting water we were going to moor at the top of the flight but all the moorings are reserved from today because there is a canal festival thing going on over Easter and they are needed for trade boats I think.

With our first plan thwarted we thought we would carry on to Crick but by this time the wind was really strong and had turned very chilly. When we got to Husbands Bosworth we decided enough was enough. We moored before the tunnel and walked in to the village (about 25 mins).

In the village we discovered a shop which looked closed but was in fact open (a bonus as we needed bread and milk) and a pub which looked open but was in fact closed! The pub was closed despite a notice of opening hours stating they opened at 12pm every day.

We returned to the boat and consoled ourselves with a sandwich and a few cans of Old Speckled Hen which we keep for just such an occasion as this.

This afternoon it has still been windy but the wind has been joined by squally showers so we were glad we had stopped when we did.

Tomorrow we will go to Crick.
