It has been a lovely day for travelling today, no wind for a start and quite bright if a little chilly. We have travelled 12 miles with no locks.
As we had no locks I had time and opportunity to do some cleaning, deep joy! I hoovered, mopped, dusted, changed the sheets, cleaned the shower room and cleaned the windows. Phew!
When we got to Yelvertoft we stopped for water and to get rid of rubbish. The water point at Yelvertoft is on a bend right near a bridge. There is a house with a narrow boat moored up opposite it as well making it all a bit congested. When we got there there was a boat already filling with water so we pulled in front to wait.
A hire boat, which had been closely following us since Welford also wanted to get water. They tried to get past us just as a boat was coming through the bridge. Bearing in mind the moored boat opposite there was not much room for this to happen!
Several crashes occured, mostly involving us and the hire boat. I told the bloke driving the hire boat he had been watching too much Timothy West! For the uninitiated Timothy West and Prunella Scales do a canal journey programme on tv during which Tim manages to hit something at least once every episode!
Anyway this bloke obviously had no idea what I meant and said, rather abruptly, he wanted to get on the water point. I pointed out that this was the water point and we would back up when the couple who were using the tap went shortly and then he could back into our space.
As we were waiting for the boat behind to leave, a woman appeared off the hire boat and asked us how far along we were with filling up. As they had just followed us there I was amazed she didn’t realise we hadn’t even started!
We eventually got our water and buggered off to Crick. We walked in to the village and checked out the bus times for Saturday when we are going to Rugby. We went to the shop and then the pub and yes, we found one that was actually open!
