Hinckley to Stoke Golding – Beating the wind and rain!

An earlyish start was required today in order to avoid what turned out to be some pretty wild and wooly weather later on.We set off for the water point before 8 am. In fact I was still in the bathroom at the time!

A fairly pleasant 5 mile journey with only a brief light shower followed and we moored up at Stoke Golding a couple of hours later just as the wind started to get up. En route we were treated to 3 sightings of water voles which are prevalent along here and a bull finch as well.

After mooring up we had a shower while the water was hot before walking into the village. There are two pubs (one closed Mon and Tue) a shop and a Post Office. We investigated the bus stop for a trip to Nuneaton tomorrow. The weather is supposed to carry on in much the same vein as today and we need to get this charger thing sorted so another visit to Maplins will be a good idea.

We went in The George and Dragon which is a lovely pub with a huge selection of locally brewed beers from Church End Brewery. We tried a couple. ‘What The Fox’s Hat’, which is a bitter and ‘Stout Coffin’ ( I said Coffin not Goffin!) which is a stout obviously. Both were very good and we steered clear of the one called .’R.I.P.’ which was 7% abv, too much for us, especially at lunchtime!

Returning to the boat we battened down the hatches as the weather worsened and both came over rather tired. We went off for a kip at 3-30pm and didn’t wake up until 5-30pm, must have been that stout!
